Each year, there is a moment when Palm Beach begins looking north.

The dinners stretch a little later, the social calendar starts trading Worth Avenue for Main Street, and conversations quietly shift toward weekends in East Hampton. This summer, The Hedges Inn returns right on cue, reopening June 11 with newly redesigned interiors, expanded programming, and a fresh vision for luxury hospitality on the East End.

Under the ownership of Sarah and Andrew Wetenhall, the historic property enters its second season not simply refreshed, but thoughtfully reimagined. Originally established in 1873, the 12-room inn sits between Main Street and Main Beach, offering what has become an increasingly rare combination in the Hamptons: intimate scale paired with full-service luxury hospitality.

A Familiar Palm Beach Touch, Now in East Hampton

Following the success of their work at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, the Wetenhalls bring the same warmth and instinctive hospitality to The Hedges, where service feels deeply personal rather than performative. Acclaimed designer David Netto has led the redesign, preserving the inn’s historic character while introducing a quieter, more refined approach to contemporary comfort.

“Our vision for The Hedges has always been about more than just a beautiful place to stay — it’s about how guests feel the moment they arrive,” said Sarah Wetenhall, Owner & CEO. “After such an incredible first season, we are thrilled to welcome guests back to our beloved Hedges Inn and continue to set a new standard of hospitality in East Hampton.”

Ease Without Excess

Guests are welcomed with full concierge service, dedicated butler assistance, around-town transportation, beach set-ups complete with curated refreshments, and itineraries thoughtfully arranged before arrival. Wellness offerings, nightly in-room dining, and a salon suite by Paul Labrecque further blur the line between hotel stay and private residence.

New this season, The Hedges Edit introduces a curated retail concept inspired by the East End lifestyle, featuring brands including Petite Plume, Micky Paris, and LAFCO New York.

The property also continues to anchor itself socially through recurring programming like Trivia Night Sundays and Conversations at The Hedges, creating the kind of atmosphere where guests and locals naturally overlap.

Of course, no stay at The Hedges feels complete without Swifty’s, the beloved restaurant that remains at the center of the property’s rhythm. Breakfasts spill into long lunches, cocktails become dinner plans, and the indoor-outdoor setting quietly carries guests from one part of the day into the next. Swifty’s officially reopens alongside the hotel on June 11.

As another Hamptons season begins to take shape, The Hedges returns with a clearer identity than ever before, one rooted in thoughtful service, understated luxury, and a distinctly East Hampton sense of place.
